The long awaited upgrade to the DS and DS Lite, the Nintendo DSi brings a host of new and attractive features to the handheld medium, including brighter screens, a lighter and sleeker design, dual cam, better audio playback, and much faster processing courtesy of an upgraded RAM. However, any console is only as good as the games they play, and Nintendo promise to throw some great games our way throughout the rest of the year.
With the decade drawing to a close, all the major players are pushing for dominance in a year which will define the very best that each company has to offer. The upcoming Nintendo DSi lineup is suitably impressive with a host of massive gaming names to be found;
1. Legend of Zelda: Spirit Links. The Zelda series of games really do speak for themselves, being one of the most successful and popular gaming franchises of all time. As a direct sequel to the Phantom Hourglass, Spirit links brings some great innovations to the series, including a terrain-spanning train system which Link uses to navigate the world!
2. Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days. Square Enix are slotting this game somewhere in between the first and second Kingdom Hearts titles, essentially making it a 'midquel' if you will. Confusion aside, the Kingdom Hearts universe is a wide, diverse and massively popular gaming hit, and this game has been eagerly awaited for quite some time. Mixing Disney characters with the popular Final Fantasy heroes and heroines, many said this venture wouldn't work, but it continues to grow in strength and prove all naysayers wrong.
3. Front Mission 2089: Border of Madness. Front Mission continues to pioneer the sci fi/military turn based strategy game with a new installment to the DSi. Harking back to the cult favourites from the SNES days, Front Mission promises to bring back the former glory of this series into the handheld spectrum. The fans are desperate for this release, so we can only hope it's a good one!
4. Dragon Quest IX. In Japan, the Dragon Quest franchise is still considered more popular than Final Fantasy, so that speaks volumes for the quality these games must produce. Now the DSi has been blessed with bringing the 9th installment to our lives, which is clearly a testament to how popular the DSi is the world over. Dragon Quest IX is truly one of the Nintendo DSi games that will define the handheld for many years to come.
5. Guitar Hero 2: Modern Hits. The first Guitar Hero Mobile has been made incompatible with the new Nintendo DSi, as the upgrades to the system allow the faster processing to handle the gaming output. There are even plans for additional guitar-like appliances to be made available for this title!
