TRANSFORMERS: IDW TO BRIDGE THE MOVIES!
IDW Publishing, that bastion of licensed comics, have announced that they will be publishing a new series of TRANSFORMERS comics that will bridge the gap between last year’s blockbuster big screen movie and next year’s even bigger sequel. The story in the Dreamworks/Paramount feature film will continue where it left off with the comic book series, following the further exploits of the robotic alien warriors that became Earth’s guardians in their final battle against the Decepticons.
The first story to be told in this continuation of the legend is The Reign of Starscream. If you remember, the conniving Decepticon chickened out in the final fight and, as seen during the movie’s closing credits, escaping to safety. The comics are officially licensed by both Hasbro and the movie companies, but it remains to be seen just how much they are seen as canon when the next movie comes along. The comics should certainly quench the fans’ thirst for a little while at least. Word is they will also be introducing new characters who may well pop up in the second film, and as Michael bay is being so secretive over the story of the second movie (going so far as to leak fake scripts and suchlike), this may be about as good as the teasers get for now.
I do like the sound of the story- basically of Starscream gathering the surviving Decepticons and becoming their leader on Earth after the fall of Megatron, but, hang on a minute, weren’t the only surviving Deceptions Barricade and Starscream himself? I’m looking forward to finding out what IDW have up their collective sleeves. Written by Chris Ryall and Chris Mowry, the new Transformers sort-of-sequel is drawn by Alex Milne, who was responsible for the Transformers Movie Adaptation artwork, and will go on sale this month.
